HISTORY

Our intent is that the teaching of History will help pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain’s past and that of the wider world. We aim for it to inspire pupils’ curiosity, enable them to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments, and develop perspective and judgement. Through the teaching of history we endeavour to teach children to understand the complexity of people’s lives, the process of change, the diversity of society and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.

Our Curriculum is mapped to cover key historical events but to also ensure that children see historical links in their connected curriculum. We want the children to enjoy learning about history both inside and outside the classroom, so we have carefully worked to integrate history into our creative approach and show the importance of the local area. Children learn through educational visits to develop knowledge and real life experiences.  We want our pupils to learn through a variety of sources and value the living history in our unique community, so they see this as a valuable asset to their learning. We work to ensure they understand timelines, sources and historical accounts, and structure these to ensure they are  able to communicate their learning in a variety of ways.
